Cross Country
The Hudson Valley men’s and women’s cross country programs competed in the NJCAA National Championship meet on Saturday morning in Westfield, MA. The women’s program claimed fifth place as their top finisher McKenzie Ryan qualified as an All-American following her 11th place finish. The women’s team tallied 137 total points in the 5K race, which gave them a top-five finish for the second consecutive season. Ryan’s 11th place finish came with an official time of 20:35.
The men’s cross country team finished outside of the top-10 in 13th place out of 28 total teams. The men were led by Joseph Degiorgio, who finished the 8K race in 42nd place to with a time of 28:55. Evan Rogotzke followed Degiorgio and with a time of 29:47.
Football
Hudson Valley Community College football team (5-4) won its second straight game and its fourth in the last five games after defeating Navy Prep 8-7 on Saturday afternoon at the Outdoor Athletic Complex.
The Vikings were held scoreless for a majority of the game and were held deep into their own territory until they finally broke through with 1:34 remaining in the fourth quarter. The Vikings marched 75 yards on a 17-play drive, which was capped by a one-yard rushing touchdown by Desi Floyd. As the crowd noise grew louder, the Vikings opted to utilize their momentum and attempt a two-point conversion and the opportunity to gain the lead over Navy Prep.
Volleyball

Men’s Soccer
Hudson Valley Community College men’s soccer (6-9-2) once again needed extra time to decide a winner as the Vikings were defeated on the road at Broome, 2-1, in overtime on Tuesday afternoon, the first round of the NJCAA Region 3 tournament.
Women’s Soccer
Hudson Valley Community College women’s soccer (12-4) defeated Genesee, 5-0, on Thursday afternoon to advance to the NJCAA Region 3 District A Championship match against the top-seeded Mohawk Valley Hawks. The Vikings were defeated, 3-1, by top-seeded Mohawk Valley in the NJCAA Region 3 District A Championship match on Sunday afternoon at Herkimer College.
Men’s Basketball
Hudson Valley Community College men’s basketball started the 2019 season with an 80-74 road win at Cayuga on Saturday afternoon in Auburn.
The Vikings were led by freshman Iziah Pigott (Brooklyn/Urban Assembly for Law & Justice) and sophomore Will Aybar (Albany/Colonie), who each recorded a double-digit scoring game. Pigott finished the game with a team-high 13 points, including a pair of three-point field goals. Aybar earned most of his points at the free throw line as he finished 7-of-8 on the free shots.
Women’s Basketball
The women’s basketball team had two games over the weekend and finished with a 1-1 record. On Saturday, the team tipped off the 2019 season with an 81-69 road win at Cayuga. The Vikings were led by freshmen Emily Erickson (Melrose/Tamarac), Grace VanRoy (Saugerties/Saugerties) and Alex Rifenburg (Schaghticoke/Hoosic Valley) as all three finished the game with double-digit points.
On Sunday, they were defeated, 82-71, by Montgomery College as they participated in Sullivan’s Season Tip-Off Tournament in Loch Sheldrake. For the second straight game, freshman Emily Erickson (Melrose/Tamarac) led all scorers with 27 points on 8-of-20 shooting, which included a career-high six three-point field goals made.
