Cross Country
Hudson Valley Community College cross country teams competed in the NJCAA Region III meet at Finger Lakes Community College on Saturday, Oct. 28.
The men’s program finished sixth out of six teams and combined for an average time of 36:48.8 in the five-mile race. Holden Maynard was the first Vikings runner to cross the finish line and placed seventh overall with a final time of 31:06.4.
The women’s program sent two individuals, Sarah Rosenberger and Mercedes Planavsky, to compete in the NJCAA Region III 5K meet. Rosenberger and Planavsky both placed inside the top-10 with Rosenberger placing sixth with a final time of 23:11.6. Planavsky crossed the finish line in 10th place with a time of 24:01.0.
Football (1-7) lost a tough game as they couldn’t overcome the slippery conditions and the steady rain as Erie Community College defeated the Vikings, 43-14, on Saturday, Oct. 28 afternoon in Orchard Park, N.Y.
The Men’s Soccer (9-8) season came to a close Tuesday evening, Oct. 24 as the No.7 Vikings fell to No.10 Finger Lakes, 5-1, in the NJCAA Region III Quarterfinal round. Ethan Thomas put the Hudson Valley on the board in the second half after being awarded a penalty kick as a result of a Lakers foul in the box.
Women’s Soccer (12-5) advanced to the NJCAA Region III Championship game after defeating Corning, 2-1, on Thursday, Oct. 26 but couldn’t overcome the top-ranked Herkimer Generals in the Championship match on Sunday, Oct. 29. The Vikings closed out their best year since finishing 2014 with a 11-4-1 record. Kaitlin Nadeau and Sydney Buhrke were named to the 2017 NJCAA Region III All-Tournament Team.
The women’s soccer All-Conference, All-Region and All-American teams are scheduled to be released this week with the expectation a few Vikings student-athletes will earn the year-end honors.
Men’s Basketball (0-0) begins its 2017 campaign at home on Wednesday, Nov. 1 when they welcome Rockland Community College to Troy. Game time is 7 p.m. The men’s program also will travel to Cayuga Community College on Saturday, Nov. 4 for a 3 p.m. game.
Women’s Basketball (0-0) also begins its 2017 season at home on Nov. 1 against Rockland Community College. They also travel with the men’s program to take on Cayuga Community College at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4.
