Super Bowl time again!
The Super Bowl is here once more. Though millions of eyes will be glued to the game on flat screens on that day, there are many other factors that draw us around living rooms, bars, and TV trays all across the nation: food, friends, a sense of camaraderie, and of course, those ads! For many of us, the game will be a great opportunity to reconnect with friends we have not seen in a while, maybe not since the last Super Bowl!.
The Super Bowl, one of the most watched events in the United States, demonstrates one of our most basic needs. We are social beings. Having a sense of belonging is a powerful need that we share. The need is so powerful that a hundred thousand souls will pay large sums of money for Super Bowl tickets and brave logistical hurdles and large crowds in order to experience this significant social event. They will gather to experience together their common love of the game and of their team. They will experience the same sights and sounds together.
If you are going to a Super Bowl event this weekend, don’t forget to invite that friend who may not have anyone to be with — you probably will make his or her day! And while you are enjoying the big game, remember to take the time to truly enjoy each other’s company.
