Who else but Brian Melick, the region’s best known and most enduring percussionist, would use LEGOs to build a drum set? The Cultural Affairs Program presents “A Percussionist and His LEGOs” on Thursday, April 13 at noon in the Bulmer Telecommunications Center Auditorium.
Following a “very strict credo NOT to alter the original LEGO-designed brick in any way” — no cutting, drilling or gluing — Melick took advantage of the toy’s remarkable flexibility to build a fully-functional musical instrument. Melick will talk about his inspiration and process to build the drum set, perform and answer questions from the audience. He may even let drummers sample the kit themselves after the presentation.
