Dear Campus Community,
The Ellucian Banner product will be going through several transitions over the next 17 months. This will include transitioning from Banner 8 to Banner 9, which must be completed by Dec. 31, 2018. The Banner Steering Committee is currently working with the support of Ellucian, SUNY ITEC and the SICAS Center on meeting this deadline.
Scheduled Downtime — Move to Managed Hosting
Our Banner applications (INB, WIReD, and Flexible Registration) will be moved to a managed hosting environment at the SUNY ITEC Data Center in order to meet the new hardware requirements of Banner 9. Over the past couple months, extensive testing of our hosted development instance at SUNY ITEC has been completed by functional units on campus. The move to ITEC will occur over a four-day period beginning Friday, June 16, 2017 after the close of business. Banner PROD (including INB, WIReD, Degree Works, and Flexible Registration) will be unavailable from Friday, June 16, 2017 with services being restored on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 at 8 a.m.
Banner Modifications
Banner 9 has been greatly enhanced and functional areas will be reviewing baseline functionality in the coming months. We will need to determine if functionality similar to our current modifications exists within Banner 9. If it does not, the college will need to determine the feasibility of maintaining modifications after December 31, 2018. This also will include investigating the associated costs of maintaining these modifications with Ellucian or SICAS. However, SICAS also will be eliminating support of some modifications that they have determined to be underutilized by campuses, which includes the Random Scheduler.
Training
As the College transitions to Banner 9, functional areas will be offering training on the new features and functionality. This transition will occur in several phases as modules are released and SICAS provides any necessary modifications to comply with state or federal mandates.
In addition, a questionnaire will be sent to all current Banner INB users to determine our current training needs on campus.
Thank you,
The Banner Steering Committee
