Trauma-Informed Care in Higher Education Certificate Courses – Free to any SUNY community college faculty or staff member!
Thanks to funding from the Lumina Foundation for the SUNY REACH project, SUNY is able to offer trauma-informed certification courses to help faculty and staff learn how to deal with the impact of trauma and create strategies to create resilience.
The key objective of the Community Resilience Initiative (CRI) six-hour courses is to provide information about identifying and responding to difficult situations with evidence-based resilience strategies when working with an audience whose history with traumatic experiences may not be known. Laura J. Clark, a master trainer with the Community Resilience Initiative and the owner of LJC Consulting, LLC, will lead the courses. She is also the executive director of Virginia’s Community Colleges Student Success Center and the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Student Success and Professional Development.
Registration and further details can be found here: NYSSC/REACH Project Trauma Informed Training Session Fall 2023 Registration. It will be first come, first serve for registration.
NOTE: Attendees must first take, complete, and be certified as Trauma Informed through Course 1 before taking Course 2.
Trauma and life challenges can overwhelm our ability to cope and process them. These experiences often manifest in our daily lives, such as difficulties in relationships or behavioral issues. Understanding the neuroscience of trauma can help connect it to the challenges faced by students, colleagues, and family members. As educators, we must leverage the connection between resilience and building a productive workforce for the future, as we are tasked with building the workforce of the future.
