Troy mayor visits campus on National Manufacturing Day — Friday, Oct. 7

Troy Mayor Patrick Madden visits campus at noon on Friday, Oct. 7 to tour the college’s Advanced Manufacturing Technology facility with President Drew Matonak and David Larkin, professor in the AMT program.

Madden’s visit coincides with National Manufacturing Day, an annual celebration of modern manufacturing meant to inspire the next generation of manufacturers, as well as kicks off Troy Manufacturing Week.

Manufacturing represents the 9th largest economy in the world, supporting over 18.5 million jobs in the United States alone. However, a recent assessment of US manufacturing found a significant shortage of talent available to fill open skilled positions, a trend that is projected to increase over the next decade. Cities like Troy have a role in encouraging young people to explore potential career opportunities in manufacturing through events like Troy Manufacturing Week, according to John Salka, the mayor’s deputy director of public information.
