UAA Completes Inclusive Manufacturing Camp

HVCC’s Uniquely Abled Academy hosted an inclusive manufacturing camp for three weeks in June.

The camp was attended by nine students with autism, ranging in age from 19 to 31, who may be interested in a career in manufacturing. During the camp, students learned introductory skills in CAM, CNC Machining, Cutting, Drilling, Programming, Stamping, Engraving and Welding.

Students created projects using metal materials. Several of the students now will be accepted into the UAA program for the fall semester.

Special thanks to Associate Professor Brian Wickham and Iain Monty, an Advanced Manufacturing Technology student who served as a camp counselor, who taught the manufacturing skills, and UAA Director Dawn Danner, who taught basic soft skills to the campers. The camp was sponsored by Sparkforce.
