Veteran Mental Health First Aid Training

The VETROC will host a Veteran Mental Health First Aid Training on Tuesday, December 3 from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. in the Siek Campus Center Room 204, President’s Innovation Hall. This training is open to anyone who is interested in veteran mental health; you do not need to be a veteran to attend.

One in four active duty military members show signs of a mental health condition. Mental Health First Aid for Veterans, Military Members and their Families teaches you how to identify, understand and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. This training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to appropriate care.

Learn how to respond with the Mental Health First Aid Action Plan (ALGEE):

  • Assess for risk of suicide or harm.
  • Listen nonjudgmentally.
  • Give reassurance and information.
  • Encourage appropriate professional help.
  • Encourage self-help and other support strategies

The event is free; registration is required.
