Hello faculty and staff,
As you may have heard, Hudson Valley Community College is now home to the Veteran Resource and Outreach Center (VET-ROC), as well as the PFC Joseph P. Dwyer Veterans Peer Support Program of Rensselaer County.
The Dwyer Program provides a non-clinical approach to Veterans and military-affiliated individuals, who suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and/or Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) to help them re-integrate into society and higher education. The VET-ROC was established to be a “One-Stop Shop” for military-connected students on campus to not only help them navigate higher education, but also to provide an area to discuss challenges that many people can’t relate to.
To better provide services to these students, VET-ROC has partnered with PsychArmor to create a pilot training program referred to as “Operation Green Zone.” Operation Green Zone is designed to assist faculty and staff members in better understanding the potential signs and struggles Veterans face as they re-integrate into society and the classroom. Operation Green Zone is not designed to certify the faculty member in a mental health aspect, but it is designed to help put into perspective the Veterans’ viewpoint and see the potential signs of struggle.
We are currently hoping to pilot this program with a small group of participants. If you are interested in joining our Operation Green Zone training or learning more, please email Dan Wargo, coordinator of the Veterans Resource and Outreach Center at d.wargo@hvcc.edu by Friday, JUNE 4th
