On Saturday, Sept. 11, the Veteran Resource and Outreach Center (VETROC) and Athletics Department hosted a Veteran Appreciation BBQ prior to the Vikings football team’s home opener. Sponsored by Dinosaur Bar-B-Que and Mazzone Hospitality, the luncheon welcomed over 120 Veterans, family, and friends from across the Capital Region.
The event was held in conjunction with the 3rd Annual Military Appreciation football game, where VETROC and Athletics staff honored two local Veterans for their service to their country and the local community: Rensselaer County Undersheriff and Army Veteran PJ Higgitt. Higgitt served as the game’s honorary captain, while Marine Veteran and Army National Guard Sergeant Anthony Guadagnino received the inaugural “Military Appreciation Award.”
