I am pleased to announce the completion of searches for the positions of Vice President for Administration and Chief Financial Officer following Bill Reuter’s appointment as interim president of Erie Community College in late July.
Gloria Baez, J.D., will serve as the college’s new Vice President for Administration, beginning Sept. 28. She will be a member of the Executive Team and oversee several administrative areas at the college, such as management of the emergency preparedness committee and emergency preparedness plan, environmental health and safety and physical plant, college legal matters, collective bargaining and negotiations, facilities master planning, state and SUNY reporting, college policies, and administrative relations with Rensselaer County and the college Board of Trustees, among other responsibilities.
Baez joins the college after serving in several leadership roles in higher education. Most recently, she served as a facilities and project administrator for the not-for-profit Citrus Health Network, Inc. in Florida. She has also served as senior vice provost and chief operating officer, as well as dean of administration, for Miami Dade College, as the mayor’s chief of staff for the City of Miami Beach and as the director of multicultural language education for the Florida Department of Education.
Baez earned her Juris Doctor, Bachelor of Arts in History, and Graduate Certificate in Education Policy from Florida State University.
Donal Christian is the college’s new Chief Financial Officer, also starting on Sept. 28. He will serve as a member of the Executive Team and oversee the college’s finances, including accounting, budget, cashier, comptroller, financial aid, inventory, mail processing, purchasing and all related operations, including compliance with fiscal regulations and development of fiscal plans for the future, among other duties.
Christian most recently served as vice president for Administration and Finance at Baltimore City Community College. Prior to that, he has held administrative and financial leadership positions at Clark Atlanta University, the College of Staten Island; Clayton State University, Medgar Evers College, Montclair State University, Brooklyn College; New School University, and CUNY Central Administration. He has also served as an adjunct professor of economics, finance and business administration at several colleges. In addition, he joined the U.S. Army Reserve in 2008, and acted as chief health care information officer within the 3rd Medical Command at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait in 2015-16.
Christian holds both a bachelor’s and master’s degree in economics from CUNY City College and earned his MBA from the University of Miami. He also holds a certification in executive education from Columbia University.
Please join me in welcoming both Gloria and Donal to the college later this month. Also, I wish to extend my sincere appreciation to the VP and CFO search committee members for sharing their time, effort and dedication that led to the successful and timely hiring of two leadership positions.
