The Marvin Library Learning Commons is the partnership of the Dwight Marvin Library, the Instructional Media Center and the Learning Centers, longstanding cohabitants of the building that leveraged their services to create a more student-centered academic setting.
New features of the learning commons include:
• Expanded study areas
• Furniture equipped to support mobile devices
• Café where students and faculty can study and connect before and after classes
• Combined writing and research services, supporting the learning process from formation of research questions to completed product
• Improved access to faculty for individual consultations
• Multipurpose Room enlarged for seminars, workshops and other instruction
• Expanded archives to preserve the College’s history
• Improved security for building and collections
• Expanded silent study zones
• Expanded space to accommodate growth in Learning Disabilities Services
• Additional group study rooms on the first floor
• New media presentation and conference room on the lower level
• Online access to vast library and media digital collections
• Elements of College history and the accomplishments of its faculty and staff on permanent display
Shifts to online access to library collections provided opportunities to transform spaces formerly allocated to staff, library print collections and back-office activities into attractive areas for students to study and to collaborate.
The Marvin Library Learning Commons faculty and staff are collaborating to provide seamless services in a student-centered delivery mode.
