The Hudson Valley Community College baseball team (13-18) defeated Columbia-Greene Community College (12-12), 7-6, in extra innings on Sunday afternoon. Game two of the doubleheader was postponed due to weather.
The Vikings trailed 6-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning, but three runs in the sixth cut the lead in half. Dennis Buckley (Christian Brothers Academy/Colonie) singled up the middle in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game, forcing extra innings. Matt Leonardo (Colonie/Colonie) led off the eighth inning with a hit by pitch, and a few batters later, Dalton Wheeler (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa)) drove in the game winning run. Wheeler also got the win on the mound pitching 3 1/3 innings, allowing one hit and three strikeouts.
The baseball team hosts Jefferson Community College on Tuesday, April 24 at 2 p.m.
