Hudson Valley Community College Workforce Development Institute and Equinox, Inc. were the local recipients of a $100,000 grant aimed at building career skills for victims of domestic violence, it was announced yesterday.
Verizon Domestic Violence Entrepreneurship Grant Program, launched in July 2010, provides funding to domestic violence survivors to help them start or expand a small or home-based business.
Verizon is expanding its commitment to this program state-wide by awarding $500,000 in grants to help other domestic violence survivors rebuild their lives. The grants will fund the development of training programs to help survivors start or expand their own small or home-based businesses, which can lead to greater financial stability and independence, crucial factors in breaking the cycle of violence.
