Webinar on the Common Reading Experience at noon today

Webinar on the Common Reading Experience at Noon on April 16 in Marvin 143

Since 2006, Hudson Valley Community College has sponsored a common reading experience called HVCC READS. During those years, the HVCC READS Committee has brought a variety of authors to campus and has encouraged students, faculty, and employees to read one of the author’s works. On Wednesday, April 16, the HVCC READS Committee will host the first of two webinars on the common reading experience.

The webinars are sponsored by the American College Personnel Association, and the overview of the first webinar is as follows:

“In this first of a two-part webcast, Dr. Catherine Andersen, associate provost for academic affairs at the University of Baltimore and a scholar of the Common Read, will define the theory, literature, and research that supports Common Reading Experience programs. Christy Metzger, director of First Year Initiatives, and Dr. Katie Partin, coordinator of First Year Initiatives, are both practitioners of the Common Reading Experience at the University of Louisville. They will provide examples of how theory can be implemented to practice an integrative learning and programming experience. This webcast will establish a common language for participants on Common Read programs and provide an opportunity for discourse on implementing a campus-wide integrative experience.”

Some of the HVCC READS Committee members will gather in Marvin 143 to view the webinar, and any interested individuals also are  invited to attend.
