Why performance evaluations are important

Performance evaluations benefit both the employee and employer. It is a time to provide feedback, recognize quality performance and set expectations for future job performance. We are in a time of great change with new goals to move Hudson Valley Community College into the future. What better time to communicate to your employees the changes and expectations in their role?

Evaluations provide an opportunity to recognize strengths and how to improve weaknesses. For supervisors,  it’s a time for you to “refocus” your team and to assess training needs for your employees to ensure they are successful. Employees want honest discussion; it does not help them to hear they are “great at everything.” They want goals, they want to be engaged and motivated.

Evaluations can make employees feel valued. It is important to coach and mentor your employees all year long. Talent is one way that Hudson Valley differentiates itself from other institutions.
