With sadness

 

Karen Ferrer-Muniz, associate dean of Instructional Support Services and Retention, shared news of her father’s death in her native Puerto Rico, and forwarded the following obituary.

Jose V. Ferrer (Chente), age 83, died at Conception Hospital in San Germán, Puerto Rico, on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2017. The cause was chronic disease after intensive care.

Born May 28, 1934, in Lajas, Puerto Rico, he lived in San German, Puerto Rico. He ran his own business as a investment contractor and entrepreneur until retiring in 1990. Chente was a member of the Leon Club and a longtime volunteer at the American Cancer Association.  He recieved the National Service Medal following his service in the United States Army, Unit APO 21.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Raquel Quiñones-Ferrer, his daughters, Lynmar Ferrer-Nazario (Víctor), Karen Ferrer-Muniz (Felix), and his son, Vincent Ferrer-Quiñones; his grandchildren, Valerie, Gabriel, Vincent, Sebastian, Carolina. He was the youngest of 13 brothers and sisters.

Services were held at Avilés Memorial Home on Thursday, Oct. 19 in San German, Puerto Rico. Burial will be on Friday, Oct. 20.
