It is with great sadness that I am informing you of the passing of EOC retiree, Claire Ryan.
Claire began her employment as a reading teacher at the EOC in 1971 when it still was known as the Urban Center.
Over the years, she advanced through the academic ranks and achieved the status of professor in 1984. Her course assignments covered the gamut of EOC academic instruction and she was the primary instructor for the center’s college preparation classes in Biology and Chemistry. From January 1998 until her retirement in December 1999, Claire served as Interim Program Coordinator-Academics. Following her retirement, she returned to the EOC for an additional two years to serve as an adjunct instructor.
Claire was the recipient of numerous merit awards. She was recognized in 1990 with the President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching.
Claire was an outstanding member of the EOC faculty and will long be remembered by those of us who had the pleasure of working with her.
