On Saturday afternoon at the Region III Championships, it was announced that the Hudson Valley Community College women’s tennis team earned five All-Conference selections out of the six flights. Below is the flight, player, and conference record of each player.
Flight 1: Emily Qua (Ichabod Crane/Stuyvesant)- 6-1
Flight 2: Jenna Brophy (Greenwich/Greenwich)- 6-0
Flight 3: Haley Knight (Chatham/Canaan)- 5-1
Flight 4: Katie Vogel (Averill Park/Averill Park)- 4-1
Flight 6: Nicole Cassidy (Maple Hill/Castleton)- 5-1
The Vikings finished the regular season with a perfect 7-0 record to win the Mountain Valley Conference Championship, the first since 1998. In just her second season, Head Coach Denise Potenza has turned the program around, finishing second at Regionals. Three players won Region III Singles Championships and the team qualified for the National Tournament in Flushing, NY. Potenza was recently inducted into the Watervliet High School Hall of Fame for her contributions as a standout tennis star.
