Women’s Tennis Team Ends Season with Two Wins

 

The Hudson Valley Community College women’s tennis team (3-4) ended their regular season with two wins over Adirondack Community College (1-6) on Wednesday afternoon. The Vikings finished up a match that was postponed earlier in the season winning 5-4 and then went on to win a second match 7-2.

Hudson Valley led Adirondack 4-3 going into the postponed match with two doubles games left to be finished. Emily Qua (Ichabod Crane/Stuyvesant) and Nicole Cassidy (Maple Hill/Castleton) lost the first doubles match 9-7 making it 4-4. Holly Fletcher (Catholic Central/Waterford) and Chelsea Antanasio (Columbia/Rensselaer) trailed 3-1 entering the day, but battled back winning in a tie-breaker 9-8 (7-3) earning the Vikings the win 5-4.

In the second match, first singles, Emily Qua won in a three set tie breaker (0-6, 6-1, 7-6 [7-5]). After falling behind, Qua managed to refocus and wore down her opponent to earn the win. The Vikings earned three more singles wins led by Holly Fletcher in three sets (6-1, 5-7, 6-2), Chelsea Antanasio in three sets (6-3, 4-6, 7-5), and Hannah Infantado (Shaker/Watervliet) in two sets (6-3, 7-5).

The women swept the doubles matches behind Emily Qua and Holly Fletcher (8-4), Nicole Cassidy and Chelsea Antansio (8-6), and Kayla Radliff (Shenendehowa/Clifton Park) and Janel Weaver (Schenectady/Bellvue) 8-6.

Emily Qua and Holly Fletcher will participate in Regionals this weekend at SUNY Delhi on Friday, Oct. 7 and Saturday, Oct. 8.
