{"id":11097,"date":"2018-06-14T12:10:40","date_gmt":"2018-06-14T16:10:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/richard-monda-visits-jet-propulsion-lab-and-palomar-observatory-in-socal\/"},"modified":"2018-06-14T12:10:40","modified_gmt":"2018-06-14T16:10:40","slug":"richard-monda-visits-jet-propulsion-lab-and-palomar-observatory-in-socal","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/richard-monda-visits-jet-propulsion-lab-and-palomar-observatory-in-socal\/","title":{"rendered":"Richard Monda visits Jet Propulsion Lab and Palomar Observatory in SoCal"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Richard Monda, instructor in the Biology, Chemistry and Physics Department, recently took what he described as an &#8220;amazing trip&#8221; to Southern California to visit NASA&#8217;s Jet Propulsion Laboratory and the Palomar Observatory.<a href=\"http:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/Photo7.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-85250 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/Photo7-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;To actually talk with the scientists and engineers who do the work behind the project managers was wonderful,&#8221; Monda said of his visit to the Jet Propulsion Lab, where an open house was underway. &#8220;And the tour of the Palomar Observatory was so much more than one can see and access on the self tour.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Monda noted that 25,000 people visited the Jet Propulsion Lab over the two, open house days.<\/p>\n<p>The Jet Propulsion Laboratory is a federally-funded research and development center and NASA field center in Pasadena, with large portions of the campus in La Ca\u00f1ada Flintridge. Palomar Observatory, located atop Palomar Mountain in north San Diego County, is a center of astronomical research owned and operated by\u00a0Caltech.
