Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend<strong>. All presentations will happen in HGB 100 or HGB 101 and all but the &#8220;Rainstick&#8221; will last approximately 55 minutes.\u00a0 Refreshments will be served.\u00a0 Certificates of attendance will be available.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Monday, April 15, 2 \u2013 4 p.m\u00a0 <em>Rainstick: <\/em>presented by\u00a0Dr. Dawn Kolakoski<\/strong><br \/>\nDawn is a professor in the Teacher Preparation Department.\u00a0 She also teaches graduate courses in education for Leslie College and is the author of a book<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">, Write it Down!\u00a0 <\/span>She is well known on campus for her engaging and exciting class, Creative Arts for Children.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tuesday,\u00a0<strong>April 16, <\/strong>\u00a0 1 p.m.\u00a0<em> Bullying Intervention and Prevention:<\/em> presented by Professor Nancy Cupolo, Department Chair<\/strong><br \/>\nNancy has<strong> <\/strong>38 years of teaching experience in all three fields of education.\u00a0 She has been a key note speaker at state and national conventions on topics relative to children.\u00a0 She has done extensive research and presentations on the topic of bullying intervention and prevention. She will address the current concerns around cyber bullying.<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Wednesday,<strong> April 17 <\/strong> at 4 p.m.: <em>\u00a0Balancing the Needs of Special Education Students<\/em>:\u00a0 presented by Ken Williams<\/strong><br \/>\nKen has a master\u2019s degree in education.\u00a0 His early teaching positions included working with young adults at Wildwood, court-placed teenage girls at Charlton School, and students in the management needs program at Shenendehowa. \u00a0He has been a special education teacher at Waterford-Halfmoon School since 1996.\u00a0 He works with middle school students through the tenth grade in a self-contained setting. \u00a0He balances the needs of students with emotional disorders and cognitive impairments.\u00a0 A significant responsibility includes administering and interpreting testing for annual reviews and creating I.E.P.\u2019s for all the students.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thursday, <strong>April 18\u00a0<\/strong> at noon:\u00a0 <em>Looking at ADHD Through Different Perspectives: <\/em>Panel Presentation<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/strong>A brief overview on the general characteristics of ADHD will be discussed. Students diagnosed with ADHD will share their personal stories of traveling through school and the social and academic challenges that ADHD presents.\u00a0 A teacher will talk about strategies to help students with ADHD and a parent will share stores of what is it like to parent a child with ADHD.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Friday,\u00a0<strong>April 19 <\/strong>at noon: <em>Child\u2019s Play: enrichment ideas to foster development while promoting motor, language and coping skills<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\nLaurie Phibbs, OTR\/L, is a New York State licensed registered occupational therapist who works with children ages birth to five and their families.\u00a0 Laurie received her bachelor of science degree in occupational therapy from Utica College of Syracuse University and maintains her certification in occupational therapy through the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy.\u00a0 Laurie has many years of experience with adults with developmental disabilities and more than 12 years working with children ages birth to five.<\/p>\n<p>Michelle Ring, M.S.
