The ceremony features the announcement of annual student writing and arts awards, with readings by student writers, and is open to students, their guests, staff and the public.<\/p>\n<p>Roach Smith, the author of four memoir-based books, will focus her remarks on creative expression as an encompassing part of life. Her latest book, \u201cThe Memoir Project: A Thoroughly Non-Standardized Text on Writing &amp; Life,\u201d was published in 2011. She is a former <em>New York Times <\/em>staff writer,<em> <\/em>has written for<em> \u201c<\/em>The Los Angeles Times,\u201d \u201cVogue,\u201d and \u201cGood Housekeeping,\u201d has been a commentator on NPR\u2019s \u201cAll Things Considered,\u201d and was the writer and voice for \u201cThe Naturalist\u2019s Datebook\u201d on Martha Stewart Living Radio. Roach Smith offers memoir classes at the Arts Center of the Capital Region in downtown Troy.
