Come cheer for your favorite high\u00a0school student robotics team as\u00a010 area school districts\u00a0demonstrate the climbing, racing and\u00a0Frisbee-throwing capabilities of their robots and discuss robot construction at the Tech Valley Robot Rumble being held at\u00a0TEC-SMART, 345 Hermes Road in Malta, on Saturday. Hands-on activities for visitors include trying out robot controls and building Lego robots.<\/p>\n
This family fun event for all ages runs\u00a0from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and\u00a0is\u00a0free of charge. It is\u00a0also an opportunity for other high school students to learn about forming new\u00a0robotics teams and for community adults interested in becoming team mentors.<\/p>\n
Participants are\u00a0from Albany High School, Shenendehowa High School, Ballston Spa High School, Colonie High School, Shaker High School, Hudson High School, Amsterdam High School, Saratoga Springs High School, Schuylerville High School and Mohonasen High School.<\/p>\n
All are\u00a0members of US FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), a New Hampshire-based, non-profit organization whose mission is to engage students in science and technology. Teams participate in FIRST Robotics Competitions, and each year design, program and construct robots to perform human-like maneuvers such as walking, running, climbing, throwing and more. The competition season has recently ended.<\/p>\n
