{"id":13109,"date":"2019-09-25T12:10:02","date_gmt":"2019-09-25T16:10:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/professor-tamu-chambers-shares-documentary-about-ghana\/"},"modified":"2019-09-25T12:10:02","modified_gmt":"2019-09-25T16:10:02","slug":"professor-tamu-chambers-shares-documentary-about-ghana","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/professor-tamu-chambers-shares-documentary-about-ghana\/","title":{"rendered":"Professor Tamu Chambers shares documentary about Ghana"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Tamu Chambers, a professor in the History, Philosophy and Social Sciences Department, has directed and produced a documentary following her fall 2017 residency at the University of Ghana in Accra, West Africa.<\/p>\n<p>Entitled &#8220;An African Journey: Cradel of Civilization,&#8221; the documentary provides insights for African American and African Studies, and is available for professors and history classes.<\/p>\n<p>The documentary includes an introduction by Dr. Ibipo Johnston-Anumonwo, professor of geographic education at SUNY Cortland, who discusses the geography of the African continent. In addition, Dr. Seth Asumah, department chair of African American Studies at SUNY Cortland, shares a story about his father\u2019s relationship with the former president of Ghana, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah (1909-1972). Nkrumah was a Ghanaian politician and revolutionary, who served as the first Prime Minister and President of Ghana, having led the Gold Coast to independence from Britain in 1957.<\/p>\n<p>Kevin Buess in the Multimedia and Video Services department, co-produced the documentary.<\/p>\n<p>DVDs are available upon request.
