{"id":1342,"date":"2014-05-02T11:35:44","date_gmt":"2014-05-02T15:35:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/annual-student-exhibitions-close-saturday\/"},"modified":"2014-05-02T11:35:44","modified_gmt":"2014-05-02T15:35:44","slug":"annual-student-exhibitions-close-saturday","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/annual-student-exhibitions-close-saturday\/","title":{"rendered":"Annual student exhibitions close Saturday"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Hudson Valley Community College\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hvcc.edu\/departments\/las\/ftb\/index.html\">Department of Fine Arts, Theatre Arts and Broadcast Communications<\/a> announces the opening of two year-end student exhibitions, the Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition and the Advanced Study Exhibition, on view in the college\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hvcc.edu\/teachinggallery\/index.html\">Teaching Gallery<\/a> from Friday, April 11 to Saturday, May 3. Both exhibitions were organized by students in the college\u2019s Gallery Management classes.<\/p>\n<p>The opening of the exhibitions will be celebrated with a reception and awards ceremony for the Fine Arts, Theatre Arts and Broadcast Communications department, with students from each department in attendance, from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 11 in the Teaching Gallery. Three cash awards will be presented at the reception. The reception and exhibitions are open to the public, free of charge.<\/p>\n<p>Students in the college\u2019s Fine Arts and Digital Media programs submit class work in painting, drawing, photography, two-dimensional design, video, graphic design, animation and net art completed during summer and fall of 2013 and spring of 2014. From the approximately 250 works submitted by students last year, 114 were accepted for exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s guest juror, <a href=\"http:\/\/cassandrahooper.com\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\">Cassandra Hooper<\/a>, is a professor at the State University of New York, College at Purchase and holds an MFA from Purchase College and a BFA from the California State University, Long Beach. She is a Puffin Foundation grant recipient and has had solo exhibitions at Atelier 31, Seattle and Fine Arts Center Galleries, University of Rhode Island.<\/p>\n<p>Student participants in this year\u2019s advanced exhibition, \u201cRoot\/Paths,\u201d are David Bashe, Regina Coraldi, Lillian Ela, Melissa Flagler, Kyle Hotaling, Pete Hume, Katie Kelly, Smantha Kowalewski, Morgan Kunz, Sara O\u2019Shea and Sidra Smith. Advanced study in drawing and painting is an academic year-long course of guided study for students who have completed foundation arts courses and wish to pursue their own body of work. Cash awards also will be presented for this exhibit.<\/p>\n<p>Teaching Gallery hours are Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. &#8211; 4 p.m.; Wednesday, 1 &#8211; 7 p.m.; Saturday, 12 &#8211; 4 p.m.; closed Sunday and Monday. The Teaching Gallery is located on the ground floor of the Administration Building.<\/p>\n<p>Gallery exhibitions are supported by the Department of Fine Arts, Theatre Arts and Broadcast Communications with assistance from the Office of Cultural Affairs.
