{"id":14353,"date":"2020-05-29T16:15:03","date_gmt":"2020-05-29T20:15:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/cct-information-session-june-2-soft-skills-for-workplace-success\/"},"modified":"2020-05-29T16:15:03","modified_gmt":"2020-05-29T20:15:03","slug":"cct-information-session-june-2-soft-skills-for-workplace-success","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/cct-information-session-june-2-soft-skills-for-workplace-success\/","title":{"rendered":"CCT information session June 2: Soft Skills for Workplace Success\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Soft skills<\/strong> are personality traits and behaviors that allow you to successfully communicate and collaborate in a work environment. <strong>Hard skills<\/strong> are competencies that are learned through training or education such as accounting or automotive technology.<\/p>\n<p>Although there are many soft skills, most\u00a0can be\u00a0grouped in these\u00a0categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em><strong>Communication<\/strong><\/em> (clarity,\u00a0confidence,\u00a0respect,\u00a0empathy,\u00a0active\u00a0listening)<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Problem-solving<\/strong><\/em> (observation,\u00a0persuasion,\u00a0brainstorming,\u00a0decision making)<\/li>\n<li><em><strong>Initiative<\/strong><\/em> (self-starter, proactive, persistent,\u00a0active learning)<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Adaptability<\/em><\/strong> (calm, open-minded,\u00a0responsive to change,\u00a0optimistic)<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Work ethic<\/em><\/strong> (responsibility,\u00a0initiative, dependability,\u00a0self-motivated,\u00a0professional)<\/li>\n<li><strong><em>Teamwork<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(conflict management,\u00a0appreciating the perspective of others,\u00a0accepting feedback, coordination)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Soft skills can be strengthened with practice and are transferable to any job &#8212; not every position requires accounting skills, but every position requires communication skills.<\/p>\n<p>Learn more about these skills and how to enhance them during a <a href=\"https:\/\/hvcc.zoom.us\/j\/91107820826\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Center for Careers and Transfer Information Session<\/a> on Tuesday, June 2 at 3 p.m.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Center for Careers and Transfer offers a variety of job and career-readiness services including access to the HVCC online job bank, resume development and review, interview strategies, and more.
