Words of Wellness are resources for students to access and utilize to improve and maintain their overall wellness.<\/p>\n<p>While the Wellness Center\u2019s Counseling Services are available Monday \u2013 Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (summer hours) for counseling, consultation, and referral needs, we wanted to share additional resources that may be beneficial.<\/p>\n<p>This week we will be discussing mindfulness. Mindfulness focuses on being in the \u201chere and now.\u201d Jon Kabat-Zinn \u2014 a leader in the field of mindfulness \u2014 has described mindfulness as &#8220;paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and nonjudgmentally.&#8221; Research has linked mindfulness with numerous benefits to mental well-being. In today\u2019s busy world, take a minute to slow things down, be present, and enjoy the moment.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What is mindfulness?<\/strong><br \/>\nMindfulness is a state of nonjudgmental awareness of what\u2019s happening in the present moment, including the awareness of one\u2019s own thoughts, feelings, and senses. Over the past decade, mindfulness has worked its way into the world of mental health because of its many benefits to cognition and mental well-being.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.therapistaid.com\/worksheets\/what-is-mindfulness.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">What is Mindfulness?<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ask yourself is my mind full or am I being mindful?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-108835\" src=\"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/mindful-vs-mind-full-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" data-wp-editing=\"1\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mindfulness Exercises<br \/>\n<\/strong>Mindfulness has been defined as a moment-to-moment awareness of one&#8217;s experience without judgment. This means being present in the moment, with a feeling of acceptance. Increasing one&#8217;s mindfulness can result in reduced symptoms of anxiety and depression, improved concentration, and a number of interpersonal benefits. Like any skill, becoming more mindful takes practice. Use this worksheet to teach clients about several techniques they can use to practice and increase their mindfulness. The exercises include mindfulness meditation, body scan, mindful eating, and five senses.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.therapistaid.com\/worksheets\/mindfulness-exercises.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mindfulness Exercises<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Mindfulness Skills<\/strong><br \/>\nMindfulness skills are used in Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) as a way for clients to learn how to gain awareness of, and learn to accept, their emotions. Developing these skills will help you better manage your response to distressing situations.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.therapistaid.com\/worksheets\/dbt-mindfulness-skills.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mindfulness Skills<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Mindfulness Meditation<br \/>\n<\/strong>The\u00a0Mindfulness Meditation\u00a0worksheet provides all the information you will need to begin practicing mindfulness on your own.
