{"id":14704,"date":"2020-09-09T11:50:57","date_gmt":"2020-09-09T15:50:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/words-of-wellness-3\/"},"modified":"2020-09-09T11:50:57","modified_gmt":"2020-09-09T15:50:57","slug":"words-of-wellness-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/words-of-wellness-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Words of Wellness"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Words of Wellness are resources for students and the college community to access and utilize to improve and maintain their overall wellness.<\/p>\n<p>While the Wellness Center\u2019s <em><strong>Counseling\u00a0and Wellness Services<\/strong><\/em> are available Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to provide counseling, consultation, and referral services, remotely via phone or Zoom, for currently registered students, we wanted to share additional resources that may be beneficial during this time.<\/p>\n<p>On Sept. 9, we are sharing resources that focus on <strong>Positive Psychology<\/strong>. The goal of Positive Psychology is to build happiness and well-being. Today\u2019s post will share information about the basic premise of Positive Psychology, ways to integrate Positive Psychology practices into our lives, and exploring our strengths.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-111361 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/positive-psychology-300x182.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"182\" \/><\/p>\n<h4><strong>What is Positive Psychology?<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Psychology Today describes Positive Psychology as:<br \/>\n&#8220;Positive psychology is a branch of psychology focused on the character strengths and behaviors that allow individuals to build a life of meaning and purpose \u2014 to move beyond surviving to flourishing. Theorists and researchers in the field have sought to identify the elements of a good life. They have also proposed and tested practices for improving life satisfaction and well-being.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The following, brief article from <em>Psychology Today<\/em> describes the main concepts of positive psychology: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/us\/basics\/positive-psychology\">https:\/\/www.psychologytoday.com\/us\/basics\/positive-psychology<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>When is the last time you asked yourself what your strengths are?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-111358 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/strengths-300x175.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"175\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Explore your strengths in various areas of your life with this\u00a0Strengths Exploration worksheet\u00a0from Therapist Aid:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.therapistaid.com\/worksheets\/strengths-exploration.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Strengths Exploration Worksheet<\/a><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Research in positive psychology has shown that learning to use strengths in new ways can improve well-being. Strengths-based interventions involve identifying strengths, understanding how they are used, and learning new ways to apply them.<\/li>\n<li>By using the Strengths Exploration worksheet, you will be able to identify your strengths, and then explore your roles in different areas of life (relationships, professional life, and personal fulfillment). In her career as a positivity strategist, her focus is on facilitating\u00a0strength-based change\u00a0to develop high-impact, positive change organizations, and people.<\/p>\n<p>Playful inquiry is more than just one technique in her toolbox; it\u2019s a perspective shift that can be life-changing. Throughout the talk, Stratton-Berkessel shares many eye-opening experiences of its power in action \u2013 from executive retreats with Google to a cab ride with a driver who fought in World War II.<\/p>\n<p>By the end, you\u2019ll understand why asking the right questions could be just what we need to realize what gives our lives meaning.
