{"id":14973,"date":"2020-10-19T12:15:17","date_gmt":"2020-10-19T16:15:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/covid-19-weekly-update-oct-12-18\/"},"modified":"2020-10-19T12:15:17","modified_gmt":"2020-10-19T16:15:17","slug":"covid-19-weekly-update-oct-12-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/covid-19-weekly-update-oct-12-18\/","title":{"rendered":"COVID-19 Weekly Update: Oct. 12-18"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As part of our ongoing efforts to protect the health of our community, the college\u2019s Health Services office is continuing to provide a weekly update for students, faculty and staff to share COVID-19 testing results and reports of positive cases (on or off campus), as well as important reminders and resources to be aware of during the ongoing pandemic.<\/p>\n<p><strong>IMPORTANT REMINDER<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As a reminder to the campus community, if you experience symptoms associated with COVID-19, please stay home and report these symptoms to College Health Services to receive appropriate guidance. Health Services will assess the situation and determine if precautionary cleaning and disinfection protocols will be enacted.\u00a0<strong>Please understand that enhanced cleaning and disinfection on campus does NOT mean that a member of our community has tested positive for COVID-19 or that others are at risk.<\/strong> Also, do not be alarmed by the temporary closure of areas of campus where additional cleaning and disinfection is taking place. These are precautionary and preventative measures \u2013 consistent with public health guidance for all colleges and universities in the state \u2013 aimed at protecting the health of our students, employees, partners and visitors. These measures are not cause for undue concern. For more details, please review the <a href=\"http:\/\/COVID-19 Cleaning and Disinfection Protocols\">Aug. 18 update on Cleaning and Disinfection Protocols<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The college is also planning a series of virtual campus meetings for students, faculty and staff to learn more about COVID-19 health and safety protocols, so please be on the lookout for an email with more details coming soon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CURRENT STATISTICS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.suny.edu\/covid19-tracker\/\">SUNY\u2019s COVID-19 tracking website<\/a> provides data updated daily on COVID-19 cases and testing. During the past week, at Hudson Valley Community College:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>198<\/strong> students, faculty and staff on campus participated in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hvcc.edu\/covid19\/pooled-surveillance-testing.html\">pooled surveillance testing.<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>None<\/strong> of those individuals tested positive to date.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>3<\/strong> individuals reported testing positive through testing administered off campus.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>COLLEGE RESPONSE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please know that these individuals are isolating\/quarantining off-campus until cleared to return by county and college health officials. Enhanced cleaning and disinfection has been completed in areas occupied by individuals testing positive for COVID-19 as well as areas occupied by individuals reporting symptoms consistent with COVID-19 who later tested negative. In accordance with health privacy laws, we cannot provide any personally identifying information about these individuals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>HOW THIS AFFECTS YOU<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>College administrators work proactively and directly with county health departments to offer guidance and support to anyone affected by the virus. If contact tracing determines that you may have been exposed to an individual with COVID-19, a county health official or the college\u2019s Health Services staff will contact you. You do not need to take any action unless you hear from them directly.<\/p>\n<p><strong>USEFUL RESOURCES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The New York State Department of Health has released a new mobile app \u2013 COVID Alert NY \u2013 to send notification to those who were in close contact with someone who tests positive for COVID-19. Learn more and download the app by visiting the <a href=\"https:\/\/coronavirus.health.ny.gov\/covid-alert-ny\">Department of Health<\/a> website.<\/p>\n<p>Detailed information on Hudson Valley&#8217;s COVID-19 safety measures and protocols are available on the college&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hvcc.edu\/covid19\/index.html\">COVID-19 webpage<\/a>.
