This\u00a0 Leadership Workshop for Fall 2022 will introduce students to themselves as learners. Instead of looking at learning as a \u201cpassive\u201d activity, we will be investigating and testing active and engaged learning processes such as \u201cscaffolded learning,\u201d the \u201cSocratic method\u201d and \u201ccognitive development.\u201d Drawing from modern psychological learning theories such as constructivism, humanism and others, as well as some ancient approaches that deserve revisiting, we will explore what it means to \u201clearn\u201d as opposed to just \u201cremembering.\u201d<\/p>\n

Students will take away new techniques to use in the classroom and their daily lives. They should come prepared to participate and ask questions. Student engagement is essential in the efficacy of this session.<\/p>\n

How does our society progress? Innovation, invention, and reinvention turn old ideas into new
\nconcepts. Calling on Darwinian theories of evolution, Elon Musk\u2019s unique brand of technological
\ndeterminism, Roger\u2019s Innovation Diffusion Theory and others, we will examine the engine and
\nimpetus of innovation in modern culture.
\nHere, the students are invited to look at innovation not as a moment of genius, but as a mind set
\nthat evaluates the processes through which knowledge and inspiration leads to shared innovation.
\nAlso, the conditions that make innovation possible are examined through the modern reality of
\ndaily experience. We innovate all of the time on a personal level. In this session we will look at
\nsome ways our daily habits transform into innovative potential.<\/p>\n
