The Center for Careers & Transfer is hosting “Part-time Employment Days” Feb. 8 through 12 \u2013 a week dedicated to sharing part-time jobs with immediate openings through social media. We will also provide 20-minute workshops on important topics related to job search and success.<\/p>\n

Tuesday, Feb 9<\/strong><\/p>\n

10 a.m. — Building a Resume<\/strong> \u2013 learn about resume types and what categories to include in your resume. Did you know there are four standard types of resumes?<\/p>\n

Noon — Crafting a Cover Letter<\/strong> \u2013 learn the format and essential elements of a cover letter. Cover letters are where you explain why you\u2019d be a good fit for a job, unlike a resume that summarizes prior work experience and skills.<\/p>\n

2 p.m. — Talking with recruiters\/employers\u00a0\u2013 <\/strong>learn\u00a0what to say, and what NOT to say when speaking with a potential employer.<\/p>\n

4 p.m. — Job search strategies<\/strong> \u00a0\u2013\u00a0learn how\u00a0and where to look for open jobs. Job search sites are great, but don\u2019t forget about the hidden job\u00a0market.<\/p>\n

Wednesday, Feb. 10<\/strong><\/p>\n

10 a.m. — Soft skills<\/strong> \u2013 learn about professional (soft) skills that employers most desire — communication, team-building, work-ethic and more!<\/p>\n

2 p.m. — Interview Preparation<\/strong> \u2013 learn the steps involved in preparing for an in-person or virtual interview. There\u2019s more to the process than just bringing your resume! Learn how to answer those commonly asked interview questions.<\/p>\n

3:30 p.m. —\u00a0 Interview Demonstration\u00a0\u2013 <\/strong>Watch a live demonstration of a job interview with staff from the Center for Careers and Transfer. You\u2019ll see what to do and what NOT to do during an interview.<\/p>\n

Thursday, Feb. 11<\/strong><\/p>\n

10 a.m. — Completing Job Applications\u00a0\u2013 <\/strong>Learn what to include in your job application and why they are important!<\/p>\n

Noon — Job References<\/strong> \u2013 learn why employers ask for references, how to format a reference page, and how to ask someone to be a reference. (Yes, you have to ask them first!)<\/p>\n

2 p.m. — Job search strategies<\/strong> \u2013 learn how and where to look for open jobs. Job search sites are great but don\u2019t forget about the hidden job market.<\/p>\n

4 p.m. — Symplicity<\/strong> \u2013 learn how to access and use the HVCC online job bank. Jobs are posted by local employers almost daily!<\/p>\n
