Capital Region colleges are getting $143M in federal pandemic relief<\/strong> Colleges and universities in the Capital Region are getting more than $143 million in the latest round of federal pandemic relief funding.<\/p>\n Nearly\u00a03,500 public and private colleges and universities nationwide\u00a0are getting $36 billion as part of the $1.9 trillion\u00a0American Rescue Plan relief\u00a0package signed in March.<\/p>\n At least half of the funding each institution receives must go toward emergency cash assistance grants for students who need it.<\/p>\n The funding comes after a year of pandemic-induced financial strain, forcing institutions to\u00a0take measures\u00a0for their own long-term financial sustainability. UAlbany recently said it has $8 million to go to reach a\u00a0budget reduction target of $33 million.
