George L. Willard Camp #154, Department of New York Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War has reconstructed and repaired parts of the gravesite of Civil War Hero and \u201cRock of Chickamauga,\u201d General George Thomas. Elements of the original fence and finials were restored, the surroundings were cleared of environmental hazards and the descriptive tablet about General Thomas was raised off the ground.<\/p>\n<p>On Saturday, July 31st \u2013 the anniversary of Thomas\u2019s 1816 birthday \u2013 Oakwood Cemetery and the Col. George L. Willard Camp # 154, Department of New York, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War will <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oakwoodcemetery.org\/events-list\/re-dedication-of-the-general-george-thomas-grave-site\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rededicate the gravesite<\/a>. A ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. to noon in Section I-1.
