{"id":1638,"date":"2024-01-22T08:00:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-11T22:13:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/?p=1638"},"modified":"2026-03-11T18:13:34","modified_gmt":"2026-03-11T22:13:34","slug":"aid-for-part-time-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/aid-for-part-time-study\/","title":{"rendered":"Aid for Part-Time Study"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Applications are being accepted for NYS Aid for Part-Time Study.<\/p>\n<p>The Aid for Part-time Study (APTS) program provides grant assistance for eligible part-time students enrolled in approved undergraduate studies.<\/p>\n<p>Due to funding limitations and the number of qualified applicants, coverage is limited to 3 to 11.5 credits. Students are selected on a first come first serve basis. Applications are placed in chronological order based on when the application and State of New York taxes are received.<\/p>\n<p>Due to the recent changes of the Part Time TAP rules, students who previously had APTS may be eligible for Part Time Tap.\u00a0 You can not have both.<\/p>\n<p>Eligibility Requirements<br \/>\nAn applicant\u00a0must:<\/p>\n<p>Complete the 2024-2025 NYS TAP application;<br \/>\nbe a legal resident of New York State and have resided in NYS for at least 12 continuous months prior to the start of the term;<br \/>\nhave graduated from a high school in the United States, earned a high school equivalency diploma by passing a Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC) formally known as a GED, or passed a federally approved &#8220;Ability to Benefit&#8221; test as defined by the Commissioner of the State Education Department<br \/>\nbe enrolled as a part-time student;<br \/>\nbe matriculated in an approved program of study in a participating New York State postsecondary institution;<br \/>\nbe in good academic standing;<br \/>\nbe charged at least $100 tuition per year;<br \/>\nmeet income eligibility limitations;<br \/>\nnot have exhausted Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) eligibility;<br \/>\nnot be in default on a student loan made under any NYS or federal education loan program or repayment of any NYS award and,<br \/>\nbe in compliance with the terms of any service condition imposed by a NYS award.<br \/>\nStudy Requirements:<br \/>\nFor this program, part-time study means being enrolled for at least:<\/p>\n<p>3 but fewer than 11.5 semester hours per semester.<br \/>\nIncome Requirements:<br \/>\nEligibility for an APTS award is based on New York State net taxable income, Federal, State or local pension income and private pension and annuity income, if applicable, from the 2022 calendar year.<\/p>\n<p>For students who were eligible to be claimed as tax dependents by their parents, family New York State NET taxable income may not exceed $50,550. Family income includes student AND parent income.<br \/>\nFor students who were not eligible to be claimed by their parents as tax dependents, their New York State NET taxable income (including spouse\u2019s income) may not exceed $34,250. The spouse\u2019s income must be included if they were married on or before December 31 of the previous calendar year.<br \/>\nFor students who were not eligible to be claimed by their parents but were eligible to claim tax dependents other than self and\/or spouse, their New York State NET taxable income (including spouse\u2019s income) may not exceed $50,550.
