The Assessment and Institutional Effectiveness Committee met on Sept. 14. The meeting minutes follow.<\/p>\n
Dr. Geehan opened the meeting at 1 p.m. The meeting was held both in-person and via ZOOM. Pizza and cookies were shared by the group.<\/p>\n
Updates Nuventive: Meg Mann updated the group on the streamlining of the system, particularly for the Unit Plan process.<\/p>\n Aps and Ups — Assessment Cycle Open<\/strong> Core Indicators Ready for Review<\/strong> The committee reviewed the updated data for the Graduation Rate (CI 1.1.) obtained from IPEDs via the SUNY Portal. It was noted that the rate of students graduating in two years increased, although the rate for three years decreased slightly. All rates decreased in regard to SUNY counterparts.<\/p>\n The biggest jump in graduation rates occurred during the 2014-2015 school year. The group discussed what event around that time could have precipitated the jump in graduation rates. The creation of the Excelsior Scholarship was one possibility discussed.<\/p>\n Next the group reviewed Student Enrollment (CI 2.1). Not unexpectedly, enrollment across the large majority of SUNY community colleges, declined at a substantially higher rate than the previous years, likely due to the COVID pandemic.<\/p>\n The group then discussed Retention Rates by Ethnicity\/Race (CI 3.2). Again, not unexpectedly, there were notable differences between the categories which were mainly reflected across the comparisons with HVCC\u2019s peer community college institutions, regional community colleges, and the SUNY community college average. However, one very interesting and positive fact was noted: retention rates are up 8.0% for HVCC students who identified as Black\/African American and the rate for the Hispanic\/Latino students increased by 4.4%, counter to what has been reported by SUNY community college, as well as nationally. The group indicated that they want to look into this data more and get the specifics in order to better understand which groups are going up and down, and why.<\/p>\n For each of these Core Indicators, committee members discussed what the college has done to positively impact these areas, including retention, enrollment, Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, as well as other areas. \n<\/strong>SUNY Satisfaction Survey: We are still waiting for the results from SUNY with comparisons of other SUNY community colleges.<\/p>\n
\nThe 2020-2021 Assessment\/Planning cycle is now underway and training sessions, both in-person and via Zoom, are available several times a week, as are one-on-one sessions. This year, we are back to the deadline of Thanksgiving for submission to supervisors.<\/p>\n
