\"\"<\/a>Jim LaBate, a recently retired member of the college community, has been awarded the 2021 Maria Thomas Fiction Award<\/a>, for books dealing with the Peace Corps experience.<\/p>\n

Jim’s 2020 novel, Streets of Golfito<\/em><\/a>, is a semi-autobiographical work that flows from his experience as a Peace Corps volunteer in Costa Rica during the 1970s.<\/p>\n

A retired writing specialist in the college’s Writing and Research Center, he is the author of numerous other works of fiction and non-fiction. While on staff at the college, he was a regular columnist in the Hudsonian and hosted “HVCC Reads,” a group reading event that brought noted authors to campus. He received the SUNY Chancellor’s Award in 2018. He currently writes a blog on Medium<\/a>.<\/p>\n
