No doubt, all of us have been annoyed by inappropriate cell phone use at one time or another, and perhaps have made a few gaffes ourselves.<\/p>\n<p>In an effort to make an optimal connection with your colleagues or students, here are several tips for cell phone use in the workplace:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Focus on the person who should have your attention.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid using your cell phone during meetings.<\/li>\n<li>Don\u2019t have your cell phone visible at business events, such as lunches\/dinners, or even meetings.<\/li>\n<li>Silence your device and ask other meeting attendees to do the same.<\/li>\n<li>Have a professional ring tone.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid accessing and answering your cell phone while engaged in conversation.<\/li>\n<li>During meetings, avoid \u201creading under the table\u201d or texting\/emailing while others are speaking.<\/li>\n<li>Take personal calls in private, and avoid arguments or personal calls at work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><em>Here are some examples of leaders who enforced strict cell phone rules<\/em>:<br \/>\nDuring President Barack Obama&#8217;s tenure, cabinet members were required to leave their cell phones in a basket before entering the meeting room.
