A Series of Events in Celebration of Young Children!<\/em><\/span><\/h3>\n

Presented by the Education Club and Education and Social Sciences Department,
\nworking in collaboration with Voices: A Library Lecture Series<\/p>\n

All events are in person with the exception of “The Joy of Play,” which will be live streamed.

Using Yoga in the Preschool Classroom<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Monday, April 4, 5 – 6 p.m.<\/strong>
\nHigbee Room 108<\/strong>
\nPresenter<\/strong>: Bridget Engelhardt, preschool teacher and certified Kidding Around Yoga instructor
\nIn this workshop, you will learn strategies to help our littlest learners to learn how to care for their body, soul and spirit through deep breathing, cardio strength and toning with yoga poses and calming strategies. You will leave this class with some high engagement, SEL (Social Emotional Learning) focused \u201ctools\u201d for your toolbox that can be easily implemented in your classroom.<\/p>\n

Progressive Education in the Early Childhood Setting: Implementing Philosophy into Practice<\/h4>\n

Tuesday, April 5, 1 – 2 p.m.<\/strong>

\nPresenter<\/strong>: Leigh Augustine, kindergarten teacher at the Parker School
\nThis workshop will focus on the philosophy of progressive education in an early childhood setting and how to create a student-centered learning community based on children\u2019s interests and development.<\/p>\n

The Joy of Play: Music and Movement for Young Children<\/h4>\n

\nPresenter:<\/strong> Hugh Hanley, children\u2019s entertainer and former preschool\/toddler teacher
\nLearn simple songs, finger plays and movement games to have fun with children. Hugh will discuss how these activities are appropriate for various ages and stages of development. This event is part of Voices: A Library Lecture Series<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Working With Children of Divorce<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Friday, April 8, 11 a.m. – Noon<\/strong>

\nPresenter<\/strong>: Carla Gleason, HVCC Faculty
\nWorking with children of divorce: how to approach education with care and compassion. This workshop provides information based on current research regarding the special issues that children of divorce might face. Many times it is difficult for students to concentrate on academics when they are experiencing sadness, guilt, or anxiety. This workshop will offer techniques that can be used by classroom teachers, school counselors and assistants to help develop strategies for improving educational performance for these students.<\/p>\n
