{"id":18305,"date":"2022-07-08T12:10:11","date_gmt":"2022-07-08T16:10:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/athletics-department-announces-2021-22-major-award-recipients\/"},"modified":"2022-07-08T12:10:11","modified_gmt":"2022-07-08T16:10:11","slug":"athletics-department-announces-2021-22-major-award-recipients","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/athletics-department-announces-2021-22-major-award-recipients\/","title":{"rendered":"Athletics Department announces 2021-22 Major Award Recipients"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Hudson Valley Community College Department of Athletics is pleased to announce its annual end-of-year major awards for the 2021-22 academic year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2021-22 Major Awards<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>President&#8217;s Award\u00a0\u2013 <\/strong>Presented to a male and female student-athlete whose hard work, determination, hustle and attitude have enabled them to make valuable contributions to their team, the athletic department and the college.<br \/>\n<strong>Mikayla Bechtel<\/strong> (Women&#8217;s Soccer)<br \/>\n<strong>Jeremy Clayton<\/strong> (Football)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Otto Guenther Memorial Award<\/strong> \u2013 Presented to a male and female student-athlete who demonstrates the best combination of academic and athletic success.<br \/>\n<strong>Kat Stackrow<\/strong> (Women&#8217;s Basketball)<br \/>\n<strong>Matthew Calicchia<\/strong> (Men&#8217;s Lacrosse)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lester Higbee Award<\/strong> \u2013\u00a0Presented to the most outstanding female athlete.<br \/>\n<strong>Olivia Skylstad<\/strong> (Women&#8217;s Outdoor Track and Field)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Thomas Cahill Award<\/strong> \u2013\u00a0Presented to the most outstanding male athlete.<br \/>\n<strong>Charles Benichoux<\/strong> (Men&#8217;s Outdoor Track and Field)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dr. Andrew J. Matonak Character Award<\/strong> \u2013 Presented to a student for their commitment and contributions to their team, embracing the character and spirit of the college and the athletic department.<br \/>\n<strong>Jaden Ross<\/strong> (Baseball)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Paul F. Bishop Coach of the Year Award<\/strong> \u2013 Presented to the coach who exhibits the highest level of sportsmanship, leadership, professionalism and ethics, and who demonstrates the highest level of commitment to his\/her sport, the athletic department and, most importantly, to the student athletes.<br \/>\n<strong>Rick Tedisco<\/strong> (Softball)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phil Brown Assistant Coach of the Year Award<\/strong> \u2013\u00a0Presented to an athletic department support staff member or assistant coach who has contributed to the success of the department and the student-athletes, with a commitment to promoting the ideals set forth by their head coach or administrator.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Phil Brown Assistant Coach of the Year<\/strong>: <strong>Laurel Kurashige<\/strong> (Women&#8217;s Soccer)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Willie A. Hammett Award for Excellence in Student Service<\/strong> \u2013\u00a0Presented annually to a member of the campus community in recognition of dedicated and tireless service to our student-athletes.<br \/>\n<strong>Andrew Fuda<\/strong> (Assistant Director, Office of Special Events and Facilities Utilization)<\/p>\n<p><strong>John L.
