Three ceremonies were administered encompassing all degree and certificate programs for the School of STEM, the School of Health Sciences, and the School of Business and Liberal Arts.<br \/>\nAccompanied by family and friends in the gymnasium bleachers, the Class of 2023 received recognition and remarks from Hudson Valley Community College President Roger Ramsammy, Hudson Valley Community College Board of Trustees Chairman Neil Kelleher, and Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin, among others.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday, we celebrate our special graduates from Hudson Valley Community College\u2019s School of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math,\u201d Ramsammy pronounced.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cClass of 2023, congratulations! We are incredibly proud of you. You reached this goal, not by chance, or by accident, but through your own hard work, dedication, and perseverance. The lessons you\u2019ve learned will serve you well for the rest of your lives. Therefore, keep building upon it! Knowledge is real power!\u201d Ramsammy exclaimed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know I speak on behalf of your family and friends, our faculty and staff, alumni and supporters when I say \u2013 well done!\u201d Ramsammy continued.<\/p>\n<p>Ramsammy additionally encouraged the graduates to share their knowledge and all they\u2019ve learned with the rest of the world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGraduates, you came to us from a wide range of backgrounds with unique perspectives that have made Hudson Valley an even more vibrant and dynamic place to learn. But now, it is your turn to share your gifts with the world. Whatever path you choose to take from here, I have no doubt that you are ready. You have already proven that you can work under pressure, find solutions, and rise to meet any challenge that comes your way,\u201d Ramsammy remarked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd there will be challenges\u2014but the world is progressing. We have seen technology moving at a blistering speed. Medicine outpacing diseases that have not even become relevant before they have solutions. Energy research is progressing, and people are inventing technology the world is not even ready for,\u201d Ramsammy continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut please hear me when I say: You are entering at a time when you can make a difference. Be part of the change!\u201d Ramsammy added.<\/p>\n<p>Kelleher implored the graduating class to remember their roots and to help each other thrive as they either continue with their academic careers or enter the workforce.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs you leave here today and get started on creating the life of your dreams, I have one request for you\u2014remember to pay it forward,\u201d Kelleher remarked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re living proof that education can change lives; now it\u2019s your turn to share that gift with others. As our newest alumni, you can inspire the next generation of students just by sharing the experiences you have had during your time here with us. You never know when your help and encouragement will make all the difference in someone\u2019s life,\u201d Kelleher added.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Hector Rodriguez, Dean of the School of STEM, also advised the graduates to continue their quest and thirst for learning and knowledge beyond the campus in South Troy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI must tell you that this is just the beginning of a lifelong journey of incremental learning, and your degree from HVCC is the foundation that will allow you to build and grow from here,\u201d Rodriguez remarked.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSome of you will go straight to a career, some will continue your education through four-year degrees and beyond, and some will decide to change your direction,\u201d Rodriguez continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have done that too, more than once. Change is a given, but I guarantee you that the experiences you have had here will guide you in a positive direction and to do amazing things,\u201d Rodriguez noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo matter what the future brings, my advice is to keep learning new skills and gaining new knowledge in every way you can.\u00a0 This is just the beginning. I know that you will make us proud, and I hope that you enjoy this incredible moment in time. Congratulations!\u201d Rodriguez added.<\/p>\n<p>The 1,489 graduates ranged in age from 17-year-old Nathaniel Scott Rice to 84-year-old Barbara Simon and hailed from 40 countries around the globe. Among the graduates, 422 graduated with academic honors, and 143 were members of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society. Sixty members of the Class of 2023 are active members of the United States military or are veterans of the armed services.
