Hudson Valley Community College welcomes students for 2023 fall semester<\/h4>\n

TROY, N.Y. \u2014 Hudson Valley Community College welcomed back students for the 2023 fall semester on Monday. Students were greeted with free water, cookies, and ice cream as they ventured onto and around campus.
\nIt\u2019s part of a weeklong celebration that also includes free barbeque, pizza, live bands, and an opportunity to meet and make new friends.<\/p>\n

For students, the day marks a new adventure, experience, independence, and a sense of adulthood.<\/p>\n

Freshman Abby Newell, of South Glens Falls, voiced her excitement about the new experience.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m pretty excited. It\u2019s my first year here, so I\u2019m pretty excited,\u201d Newell said.<\/p>\n

Newell has already been able to meet some of her new classmates, as a member of the Vikings\u2019 women\u2019s volleyball team.<\/p>\n

\n\u201cIt\u2019s pretty good so far, I\u2019m on the volleyball team, so that\u2019s been pretty fun. It\u2019s been really fun, I\u2019ve really been enjoying it, we just had a lot of games this past weekend,\u201d Newell remarked on getting to know her new teammates.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m really looking forward to volleyball and just meeting new people and the new campus experience,\u201d Newell continued.<\/p>\n

Newell added that she\u2019s presently in the health and science program and plans on completing her prerequisites to be in the oral hygenist program.<\/p>\n

Kylie Moore, of Albany, was also eager to get into her major in electrical construction and maintenance. For the freshman Moore, finding her way around campus was a breeze on the first day.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been going pretty well. I\u2019ve been able to find all my classes and I haven\u2019t been late so far. My second class got canceled so I only had one class so far. I have one class left and I\u2019m gonna go get some breakfast, so the day\u2019s been going pretty good,\u201d Moore explained.<\/p>\n

Moore noted what she\u2019s looking forward to the most this semester.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m most excited about getting into my major, having fun with my major,\u201d Moore said.<\/p>\n

\u201cGetting to know everybody, getting to know the teachers and instructors,\u201d Moore added.<\/p>\n

For freshman Sevilla Baiocco, of Schenectady, finding her way around campus was relatively easy as well.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m pretty excited to be here. I\u2019m lucky because all my classes are in one building and then I have to go to forum in Brahan Hall but they\u2019re right across from each other so I feel pretty fortunate to have that privilege,\u201d Baiocco commented.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s nice, I\u2019m a freshman, so it\u2019s new to see so many different ages on the same campus. I\u2019m only one class in, I have two more,\u201d Baiocco continued.<\/p>\n

While Baiocco is undecided about her major, she expressed her interest in potentially becoming more involved on campus with different clubs and events.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I came for orientation we learned a lot about the clubs and that was really interesting and I remember starring so many that I wanted to be in but think I\u2019m gonna wait it out a little, just see how I do in the first semester and if I can handle it then I\u2019ll throw in a couple of clubs,\u201d Baiocco added.<\/p>\n
