This type of eclipse is a special type of solar eclipse in which the moon can be seen silhouetted against the sun with a ring (or \u201cannulus\u201d) of sunlight surrounding the moon.\u00a0 Technically, this event is called an annular solar eclipse. Most locations in the United States, however, will not see \u201cannularity\u201d but will see part of the sun covered by the moon, a partial solar eclipse. In the Albany region, about 20% of the surface of the sun will be obscured at maximum eclipse.
