In honor of that achievement, we\u2019d like to highlight a bit of our history and promote the services that we offer.<\/p>\n<p>The first CAE data recorded was for the fall of 2014 when students visited the CAE office 921 times. Today, with four full-time staff assisted by four part-time academic coaches, we recorded seeing <strong>216<\/strong> students during their <strong>1,355<\/strong> visits in the Spring and Summer of this year. Students visit the office for a variety of reasons, but primarily to receive academic coaching from a holistic perspective, addressing any challenge that could be interfering with their academic work. Academic coaches help students with:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>time management<\/li>\n<li>staying organized and on task<\/li>\n<li>goal setting<\/li>\n<li>developing self-advocacy skills<\/li>\n<li>learning how and when to seek tutoring<\/li>\n<li>developing or improving communication skills with professors, advisors, staff, etc.<\/li>\n<li>navigating the college process and the transition into a college environment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The academic coaching sessions conducted by staff members comprise only a portion of what they do at the CAE. Below is a brief outline of the work that staff members do to support student persistence and retention:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Refer students to campus resources, including the Learning Assistance Centers, Science Study Center, Language Lab, Library, Center for Careers and Transfer, Counseling Center, Center for Access &amp; Assistive Technology (CAAT), Financial Aid, EOP and Health Services, to name a few<\/li>\n<li>Run the Success Amongst Student Parents (SASP) program, supporting students who are single parents<\/li>\n<li>Administer the Graduation Achievement Placement (GAP) program and support GAP students<\/li>\n<li>Organize and administer the Student Senate Athletic Retention Program (SSARP) for student-athletes<\/li>\n<li>Maintain the Collegiate Academic Support Program (CASP)<\/li>\n<li>Offer short workshops upon faculty request on the following topics: Time Management, Planning for Academic Success, Developing Successful Study Habits, Successful Test Taking Strategies, Overcoming Procrastination, and Exam Preparations.<\/li>\n<li>Teach College Forum courses<\/li>\n<li>Provide presentations to College Forum classes that visit the CAE office<\/li>\n<li>Support students through participation in various student club activities<\/li>\n<li>Take part in Admissions visits and participate in Student Orientation<\/li>\n<li>Serve on committees across campus<\/li>\n<li>Process information for the College Success Referral System (CSRS)<\/li>\n<li>Evaluate student applications for emergency funding from the HVCC Foundation<\/li>\n<li>Register students in need with Unite Us, the Healthy Alliance\u2019s referral platform, to help them access social services and care throughout the region<\/li>\n<li>Maintain a student-centered computer lab<\/li>\n<li>Nominate and honor CAE Engagement Award winners<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For further information or to refer any students to our Center for Academic Engagement, please email us at <a href=\"mailto:cae@hvcc.edu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">cae@hvcc.edu<\/a>.
