{"id":21351,"date":"2024-01-09T12:50:38","date_gmt":"2024-01-09T17:50:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/quick-reference-for-emergency-procedures-while-on-campus-2\/"},"modified":"2024-01-09T12:50:38","modified_gmt":"2024-01-09T17:50:38","slug":"quick-reference-for-emergency-procedures-while-on-campus-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chronicle.hvcc.edu\/wpdev\/quick-reference-for-emergency-procedures-while-on-campus-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Quick reference for emergency procedures while on campus"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h4>Here&#8217;s what to do if in the event of a Medical Emergency.<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Cardiac Arrest\/Heart Attack<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assess the scene for danger.<\/li>\n<li>Check the victim.<\/li>\n<li>Call or instruct someone to call (518) 629-7210 to advise Public Safety of the emergency and to activate EMS.<\/li>\n<li>Perform CPR until first responder arrives on site.<\/li>\n<li>When able to do so, contact Health Services to complete an accident\/incident report.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Burns<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assess the scene for danger.<\/li>\n<li>Remove the source of the burn (if possible).<\/li>\n<li>Flush the affected area with water.<\/li>\n<li>Do not apply dressings, creams or lotion to the affected area.<\/li>\n<li>Call public safety at (518) 629-7210 to advise the campus of a medical emergency and to activate EMS.<\/li>\n<li>Seek the appropriate level of care.<\/li>\n<li>When able to do so, contact Health Services to complete an accident\/incident report.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Bleeding<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Apply firm but gentle pressure to the wound with\u00a0 a clean cloth, towel, tissues,<\/li>\n<li>Immobilize the affected area.<\/li>\n<li>If the bleeding is significant, keep the person lying down.<\/li>\n<li>Call public safety at (518) 629-7210 to advise the campus of a medical emergency and to activate EMS.<\/li>\n<li>Seek the appropriate level of care.<\/li>\n<li>When able to do so, contact Health Services to complete an accident\/incident report.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Seizures<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Keep the patient safe by removing furnishings from the area if possible.<\/li>\n<li>Do not insert object in the patient&#8217;s mouth. Do not restrain the individual.<\/li>\n<li>Call public safety at (518) 629-7210 to advise the campus of a medical emergency and to activate EMS<\/li>\n<li>Seek the appropriate level of care.<\/li>\n<li>When able to do so, contact Health Services to complete an accident\/incident report.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Fall<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assess the area for safety. (Look out for vehicles or other dangers.)<\/li>\n<li>If in a safe place, keep the victim immobile.<\/li>\n<li>Call public safety at (518) 629-7210 to advise the campus of a medical emergency and to activate EMS.<\/li>\n<li>Seek the appropriate level of care.<\/li>\n<li>When able to do so, contact Health Services to complete an accident\/incident report.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Occupational Exposure\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assess the area for safety and\u00a0 leave the affected area to limit the exposure.<\/li>\n<li>Call public safety at (518) 629 7210 to advise the campus of the emergency and to activate EMS.<\/li>\n<li>Seek the appropriate level of care.<\/li>\n<li>When able to do so,\u00a0 Contact Health Services to complete an accident\/incident\u00a0 report.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Consider adding to your cell\/mobile phone: In case of an emergency &#8212; ICE on\u00a0 campus, call (518) 629-7210!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Please remember that calling 911 from a cell phone may delay the response from EMS.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Published:<\/strong>\u00a0Tue, 09 Jan 2024 12:50:38 +0000 by\u00a0c.potvingiordano<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; Here&#8217;s what to do if in the event of a Medical Emergency.
