I wanted to update you on the recent state budget agreement and the impact it will have on us here at Hudson Valley Community College and for SUNY community colleges in general-news.<\/p>\n
The $135.2 billion state budget agreed to last week resulted in a 6% decrease in state aid. At a base state aid of $2,122 per FTE for the 2011-2012 fiscal year, the college will receive $21,771,720. For comparison, that per FTE figure is down from a base state of $2,675 ($27,445,500) that the college received in 2008-2009. That’s a loss of more than 5.6 million dollars in state funding. The base state aid rate of $2,122 per FTE for this fiscal year is less than the base state aid that we received during the 1999-2000 fiscal year… 12 years ago.<\/p>\n
These figures, in very concrete terms, underscore the message I delivered at the spring All College Meeting. The college, while still a fiscally stable institution, is feeling the impact of unprecedented cuts to our funding stream. We will continue to explore ways to minimize the impact of these cuts on our core mission of teaching and empowering student success.<\/p>\n
In addition, we will continue to accept ideas and suggestions from all members of the campus community on how we can further streamline operations.
