August 14"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The VETROC is collaborating with\u00a0 the Mental Health Association in New York State to offer a free, one-day Mental Health First Aid course on Wednesday, August 14 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Presidential Innovation Hall, Siek Campus Center, Room\u00a0 204. Breakfast and lunch are included.<\/p>\n<p>You are more likely to encounter someone \u2014 friend, family member, coworker, neighbor, or member of the community \u2014 in an emotional or mental crisis than someone having a heart attack. Mental Health First Aid teaches a five-step action plan to offer initial help to people with the signs and symptoms of a mental illness or in a crisis, and connect them with the appropriate professional, peer, social, or self-help care.<\/p>\n<p>The course is geared toward veterans and first responders, but is appropriate for anyone who wants to learn how to help an individual who may be experiencing a mental health crisis or concern. Anyone can take the Mental Health First Aid course \u2014 first responders, students, teachers, leaders of faith communities, human resources professionals, and caring citizens. You you do not need to be a veteran or a first responder to attend.<\/p>\n<p>Someone you know could be experiencing a mental illness or crisis.
