Fiesta del Norte<\/strong> will present the second of four noontime concerts offered by the college’s Cultural Affairs Program during the Fall 2024 semester. The concert, part of the campus’s annual D\u00eda de Muertos celebration,\u00a0 runs from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10 in the Bulmer Telecommunications Center Auditorium and is open free to the public. No reservations or tickets are needed to attend.<\/p>\n

\"\"Fiesta del Norte<\/strong> is an authentic Mariachi band that performs traditional Mexican folk and popular music dressed in traditional sombreros and \u201ccharro\u201d outfits. The multi-talented musicians\/singers perform Mariachis of Jalisco, Nortenas of Chihuahua and Marimba music of Chiapas with guitar, violin, trumpet, plus the stringed vihuela and guitarron. The lively program is enhanced with stories and cultural insights shared by Dave Giardina, director, who welcomes audience members to dance.<\/p>\n

The D\u00eda de Muertos celebration is coordinated by Professor Mal\u00fa Benton of the English, Foreign Languages and English as a Second Language Department, who creates a traditional ofrenda (altar) display in the Marvin Library to honor the dead that continues through Nov. 1. Also contributing to the celebration are the Marvin Library, Student Activities Office and the Black & Latino Student Association.<\/p>\n
