Bringing with her more than 10 years of coaching experience at the high school level, she spent the last four seasons as the head varsity coach at her alma mater, Columbia High School.<\/p>\n<p>Director of Athletics Kristan Pelletier said, \u201cKathleen is a coach who will be committed to the ideals and principles of Hudson Valley Community College and junior college athletics. She will continue the tradition of academic and athletic excellence that we have established in our women&#8217;s basketball program.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Smith graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a bachelor\u2019s in exercise science, after receiving a scholarship to play basketball for four years.  She captained her team in her junior and senior seasons, leading the Owls to the NE-10 playoffs and ECAC championships. Scoring more than 1,000 points while at Southern, she also led her team in minutes played, steals, assists, scoring and three-point field goals.  Smith was named NE-10 player of the week and ECAC player of the week during her senior year and earned the NE-10 Scholar Athlete Award during her junior and senior years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am very excited to have this opportunity to coach young women at the college level and I look forward to being a part of the successful tradition at Hudson Valley Community College,\u201d said Smith.<\/p>\n<p>Smith earned a master\u2019s in education with a specialization in curriculum, instruction and assessment from Walden University, and this past August finished her second master\u2019s in educational leadership and administration from the College of St. Rose.
